Meeting an old friend in VVG Bistro was such a nice thing.
TK is a half Jap and half Taiwanese. We met in L&C in Oregan in 1990. Back then, he was 19 and I was 21. I think that was the first or 2nd week when I just started my new US college life in a State that I have never even heard much about. And I was told that, in fact, I was the only student from Taiwan in 19 years.
TK and I met in the school cafeteria. I guess someone, perhaps a Japanese girl introduced him to me. When he told me that he is half, I thought he was just kidding, but he was not. I am not sure it was this blood thing that made us closer, TK just included me in his network right away and soon before I notice, I was part of the Japanese society.
TK was quite a leader of the community. I guess his being friendly to me was such a nice gesture so that most of the Japanese just took me in without much dubts, even though I didn't speak much of their language. He always said that I am part of his family, a sister, a younger one, of course.
We still keep in touch for all these years. Every once in a few year, we will meet and catch up a bit. It's always quite interesting to see people in my youth becomes a very busy business man like he does now. Maybe my old friends think the same of me now. Life is fun, isn't it.
